Reducing energy consumption + gameification + social media? Now that's something we can get excited about. According to CNN, the super interesting folks over at OPOWER are teaming up with Facebook in a new upcoming app that invites consumers to compare their energy consumption and then compete to improve it over time. Apparently, OPOWER customers already typically spend 2-3% less than average consumers, which is quite impressive.
Unfortunately the app doesn't hit until next year, but this is one we'll be watching for and are excited to test out. Anything to make our footprint here a lighter one.
Although energy consumption and reduction of consumption aren't super "sexy" topics they are certainly important ones and a cause prime for social conversation, action and scalable word-of-mouth.
